Prothrombin Time, or PT, measures the time taken (in seconds) for the blood to clot. Prothrombin is a protein produced by the liver and is one of many factors in your blood that helps it clot appropriately. PT/INR also measures liver function and vitamin K status.
This test requires a blood draw, which can be done at your local clinic. An accredited lab like Karolinska, Aleris, or Unilabs will analyse it. The first results are usually available within 48 hours.
What happens next?
The lab sends the results to us, and we will share them with you. If results are abnormal, we may recommend seeing a doctor and, if appropriate, booking an appointment with a Nordic Wellth nutrition lifestyle specialist.
You may need to make lifestyle and dietary changes.
Medicines, supplements, food and alcohol may affect test results. Tell us if you are taking certain
medications or supplements. The following medications may affect PT test results: antibiotics, barbiturates,
contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, aspirin, heparin and antihistamines.
Avoid taking vitamin K 24 hours before this test.
