This test measures chloride, which plays an important role in electrolyte and PH balance. Alongside potassium, sodium, and bicarbonate, it helps to regulate the amount of fluid in the body and maintain the acid-base balance.

Values that are slightly outside the reference range can be normal. Reference ranges are not perfect and approximately 5% of healthy individuals may have results outside the reference range.
Drugs that affect sodium blood levels affect chloride levels. Consuming large amounts of baking soda and/or antacids can also cause low blood chloride.
This test requires a blood draw, which can be done at your local clinic. It will be analyzed by an accredited lab, such as Karolinska, Synlab, or Unilabs. The first results are usually available within 48h.
What happens next?
The lab sends the results to your personal dashboard, with comments from both a doctor and a nutritionist. If results are abnormal, we recommend seeing a doctor and, if appropriate, booking an appointment with a Nordic Wellth nutrition lifestyle specialist.
You may need to make lifestyle and dietary changes.
